BLACK WOMEN HEAL
From studies and research of our own, we are aware many illnesses can develop from Domestic Abuse over a prolonged time. As a result, we began a campaign to end this and launched the “Black Women Heal”(BWH) programme. We piloted BWH in 2014 in London as a response to the need; provide additional support and awareness leading to some vital diagnosis, health issues and domestic abuse and harmful practice related health concerns.
The BWH is a specific health programme focusing on health issues prone predominately in the BME community in particular Black and Asian community.
During this programme, it gives women and girls to learn about various illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, fertility, lupus etc. together with raise their personal health concerns, or perhaps for close friends and family.
Each BWH programme is delivered over a short period of time allow participants time to digest and reflect on what they have taken from each session. It also enables them the opportunity to action what they have learned and practically take steps in putting their health first i.e. book doctor’s appointment.
The BWH training looks at tailored health topics each session giving women and girls the chance to address their concerns to various health specialists and ask questions in a safe and confidential environment. We appreciate every group and needs may vary, therefore, we also create bespoke training to meet the need of our audience enabling them to request health topics of their choosing at the beginning of the training so it is relevant to the group attending.
